Beiersdorf first half sales up 6.6%

Growth was led by the Americas and Asia Pacific

German beauty giant Beiersdorf has seen organic group sales rise by 6.6% from €3.062bn to €3.163bn for the first half of 2013. Consolidated after tax profit rose to €287m while the Consumer Business Segment remained strong, delivering organic sales growth of 6.5% in the first six months of this year. In nominal terms, sales increased by 3.1%, up from €2.561bn to €2.641bn.

All three of the company’s key brands saw strong sales growth, with Nivea, Eucerin and La Prairie up by 6.8%, 12.0% and 5.3% respectively.

Geographically, the company saw significant growth in the Americas region, where sales climbed by 13.8%. Sales in North America were up 4.3% on prior year while sales in Germany also grew 2.7%. Western Europe, however, saw sales drop 2.3% while Eastern Europe fell 1.3%.

Finally, sales in the Africa/Asia/Australia region rose by 19.0%, primarily due to solid results in China.
