Beiersdorf creates anti-stress deodorant
New deodorant combats stress-induced sweating
Scientists at Beiersdorf are claiming to have developed a deodorant that reduces stress-induced sweating by up to half. The condition is most prevalent in teens, and a study by the manufacturer found stressed teens produced 24 times more sweat on average.
The new product contains aluminium chlorohydrate, which is said to dissolve particularly well when it comes into contact with perspiration, helping to reduce sweat by narrowing the openings of the sweat glands. In addition a patented antibacterial agent helps prevent the development of body odour.
Two products aimed at teens have been launched using the technology. Nivea Menenergy is aimed at teenage boys, while Nivea Angel Star targets teenage girls.
In other news Beiersdorf has created a new visible test method to measure the amount of UV protection on the skin which is says will help consumers see if they need to apply more sun cream. The company is using an infrared imaging spectrometer which features a green, yellow and red colour scale. Green represents good coverage, while red represents too little protection.
The company says consumers are currently using between a quarter and a third of the required amount of sunscreen. The optimal amount is 2 milligrams per centimetere squared for the whole body.
“In order to convince consumers that in the future they need to use more sunscreen than they normally do, we need visual and persuasive forms of information. With the FT IR Imaging Spectrometer we’re on the right path,” commented Dr Simone Presto from Beiersdorf’s Medical Affairs department.
