The equity will facilitate the ‘clean’ skin care player’s growth in North America

Ayurvedic skin care company Sahajan has closed its first round of funding.

The Toronto, Canada-headquartered brand, which specialises in ‘clean’ formulations, said the equity would facilitate growth in North America.

Targeted growth initiatives for the brand include boosting marketing spend, retail expansion, clinical trials and new product launches.

Additionally, Sahajan said it is building its global reach through partnerships with luxury hotels, including the St. Regis, The Ritz, J.W. Marriott and W Hotels.

Launched in 2015 by former pharmaceutical executive Lisa Mattam, Sahajan has to-date been entirely bootstrapped.

Investors in this round of funding include Ridgeline Ventures, Wonderment Ventures, actor Yvonne Strahovski (star of ‘The Handmaid’ s Tale’ ), poet and artist Rupi Kaur, lululemon executive Celeste Burgoyne, dermatologist Dr Shannon Humphrey and veteran consumer investor Manica Blain.

“I am thrilled to announce this round of funding and the brand’s North American expansion, helping to secure Sahajan’s position as the leader in Ayurvedic, clean beauty,” said Sahajan CEO and founder Mattam.

“I started this brand with a clear mission: to bring ancient Ayurveda and its time-tested, high-performing ingredients to the beauty world, creating products with unparalleled efficacy.

“With this round of funding and the strategic hotel distribution, millions of people across the world will experience the power of Sahajan.”
