Arch Personal Care Products has launched a new natural foaming peptide based on organic amaranth (Amaranthus caudatus) - Amaranth S. Amaranth is a gluten-free grain offering a high nutritional value and a better amino acid profile than whole milk. Amaranth S is intended for use in formulations marketed as natural, and is thought to be particularly suitable for conditioning and cleansing formulations, where the presence of essential amino acids in the amaranth protein provides a nourishing effect on the skin. Amaranth S is a foam boosting agent, acting as an organically-based secondary surfactant to be used in shampoos, gels, cleansers and liquid soaps. Amaranth S has good compatibility with a broad range of cationic, non-ionic and anionic surfactants.
With a proposed INCI designation of Sodium cocoyl hydrolyzed amaranth protein, Amaranth S is said to be an excellent co-solubilising agent for cationic polymers while providing a soft, gentle feel without irritation. Amaranth S has proven to produce stable foam with good aesthetics in the presence of both salt and sebum and in a wide pH range, says Arch. Recommended use level is 5%-20%.
