Antarka has announced the launch of ANKros-CPD, a biotechnology-derived active ingredient designed to support DNA repair mechanisms within the skin, introducing a new approach to longevity-focused skincare. The ingredient was officially unveiled at in-cosmetics Global in Paris, where the company was also recognised with the Rising Star Award, honouring the most innovative new exhibitors.
The development of ANKros-CPD traces back to scientific research conducted in Antarctic ecosystems, one of the most extreme environments on Earth. In these conditions, characterised by intense UV radiation, low temperatures and high oxidative stress, microorganisms have evolved highly efficient systems to preserve genomic integrity. This line of research enabled the identification of a CPD-photolyase enzyme with the ability to recognise and repair UV-induced DNA lesions.
Translating this biological function into a cosmetic active required bridging environmental biology and applied skin science. Through Antarka’s biotechnology platform, the enzyme was stabilised and adapted for topical use, enabling its integration into skincare formulations while preserving its functional activity.
ANKros-CPD targets cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs), a primary form of DNA damage caused by UV exposure. By enabling the recognition and repair of these lesions at the molecular level, the active is designed to address one of the root causes of skin ageing: the accumulation of DNA damage over time.
While conventional cosmetic ingredients typically act on visible signs of ageing such as wrinkles, loss of firmness or uneven tone, ANKros-CPD operates upstream, focusing on the preservation of genomic integrity. This mechanism supports a shift towards formulations that aim to maintain long-term skin function, aligning with the growing industry interest in skin longevity.
The ingredient has been evaluated through a combination of preclinical and clinical approaches, supporting its role in reinforcing the skin’s ability to manage UV-induced stress. This evidence base contributes to a broader narrative around preventative and longevity-oriented skincare strategies.
With the launch of ANKros-CPD, Antarka expands the toolkit available to formulators, offering an active that connects environmental adaptation, molecular repair and next-generation skincare innovation.
Antarka also won the Rising Star Award at in-cosmetics Global 2026, recognising emerging innovation in the industry.
