The production of aluminium packaging reached a new record in 2006, according to the aluminium trade association GDA Gesamtverbrand ver Aluminiumindustrie.

The production of aluminium packaging reached a new record in 2006, according to the aluminium trade association GDA Gesamtverbrand ver Aluminiumindustrie.

A total of 397,201 tonnes of aluminium foil, tubes, flexible packaging and aerosol and beverage cans were produced, a growth of 9.8% on the previous year. In terms of turnover this equates to a rise of 17.8% to €2.268bn.

Strong domestc demand coupled with export growth has helped boost the market and chairman Manfred Witzstock predicts an even stronger 1st half in 2007.
