Zschimmer & Schwarz is expanding it Protelan PCA-Ester range of “active emollients”.
Described as all-in-one skin silkeners and active ingredients, Protelan PCA-Esters combine active ingredient properties with emollient effect to form multifunctional, oil soluble cosmetic raw materials.
“Depending on fatty alcohol chain length and degree of branching they show interesting effects in special formulations, such as improvement of skin and hair moisture, reduction of stickiness in lip gloss, increase of water resistance in sun care formulations and also co-emulsification properties,” says Z&S.
They can be used in a variety of leave-on and rinse-off products but are used primarily in water-free systems. The performance of body and baby oils, sun protection oils, hair oils, silicon-based shine sprays for hair and make-up are the kind of areas where Z&S says Protelan PCA-Esters can be greatly enhanced.
Ester types include Protelan LPC (Lauryl PCA), Protelan SPC (Isostearyl PCA) and Protelan ODPC (Octyldodecyl PCA). The latest addition is Protelan PCA 40 (Sodium PCA, glycerin, water (aqua), described as a highly efficient natural moisturiser with a wide range of applications in personal care formulations.
