Tropic Skincare’s founder Susie Ma has regained full ownership of the brand from British business magnate Lord Alan Sugar.
Ma, who founded the business in 2004, has agreed to buy out Lord Sugar’s remaining 50% shares in the company.
After appearing on the seventh season of British business-styled reality game show The Apprentice in 2011, Ma was offered £200,000 in funding from Sugar to invest into the brand.
“Twelve years after investing in Tropic Skincare, I have agreed with Susie Ma’s decision to purchase back my shares and return sole ownership to her,” said Sugar.
“Susie is a shining example of what it is to be a business owner today.
“When I first met Susie in 2010, I saw a unique grit and determination and it’s a drive she has maintained over the years.”
Sugar’s investment is the only external funding Tropic has received in its 19-year history.
Ma will now focus on increasing brand awareness through the launch of an updated website.
She also plans to refresh Tropic's branding and expand its product offering.
“I will always be so grateful for the investment Lord Sugar made, and the potential he saw in Tropic Skincare with me at the helm,” added Ma.
“After founding the company at just 15, and spending every day since building it into the success you see today, reclaiming full ownership has always been my ambition.”
