UK firm Spectra Packaging has provided spa cosmetics specialist ESPA with new packs for its Bath and Body Essentials range. The 250ml and 300ml PET packs were supplied from the firm’s standard range of tubular containers and then custom coloured in translucent dark purple. They also feature a matte varnish wrap-around graphic, and silk-screen printing and foil blocking on PET.
This presented a number of technical challenges, says the firm: “We evaluated the requirements in detail with our print department and suggested ways to achieve the finished result as per the demanding design brief,” said Spectra’s Gary Allard. “ESPA have incredibly high standards which are why we were delighted to get our teeth into [the] project.” Spectra was able to achieve the results demanded by ESPA with two-pass printing and foil blocking. Its design team worked out a way to make the foil blocking appear to overlap the silk-screen printing – traditionally a difficult process to achieve through conventional bottle decoration.
Another factor the firm had to overcome was the use of PET, which is a difficult material to work with when foil blocking is applied. Specific foils for the blocking process were also sourced by Spectra to ensure that ESPA had an exact colour match for the product.
