Helen of Troy sales slide amid volatile market

Helen of Troy, the brand-name personal care and household consumer products designer, developer and marketer, has reported a sales decline of 11.8% for the third quarter ended 30 November. The Texas-based company disclosed sales figures of approximately $185m versus sales of over $210m in the same period of the previous year.

Helen of Troy’s personal care segment fared especially badly with net sales for the third quarter slipping 13.9% from $163m to $140m. Gerald J Rubin, ceo and president, blamed Helen of Troy’s poor performance on consumer uncertainty triggered by credit market instability, a volatile stock market and an increase in unemployment rates.
