Service ensures companies are compliant with new regulations

The Chemical Business Association (CBA) has introduced a new checking service said to help companies meet the 1st December deadline for the new format Safety Data Sheets (SDS), which have been introduced as a result of REACH and the new Classification, Labelling and Packaging regulations.

The new service will cost £250 plus VAT per SDS although discounts will be available for volume customers, according to the company. The new SDS now means companies have to fill in a total of 63 separate items of information per data sheet with no section left blank. CBS says its process is completed by a consultant toxicologist and a written report issued, showing either its compliance or a list of amendments needed.

“Safety Data Sheets have become significantly more complex and companies will now be liable for the accuracy and completeness of information they contain,” says CBA director, Peter Newport. “Recent research has revealed that around 20% of all Safety Data Sheets fail to meet the new language and format requirements. As a result regulators are increasingly likely to target SDS compliance.”
