The founders of Beauty Boulevard, the company behind Glitter Lips, have said they believe the judges of UK television show Dragons’ Den “missed a trick” by not investing in their company.

Paula Short (left) and Rachel De Caux pitched their product to the judges or ‘dragons’ on the show on 14 August seeking £65,000 in return for 5% of the company.

Speaking to Cosmetics Business, de Caux explained the opportunity came about after they were contacted by the show.

“We thought ‘why not?’. It was only ever going to be a win-win situation. Getting a dragon investor on-board or not, our product would have be seen by millions of viewers.”

Despite a positive reaction from the dragon’s especially from Peter Jones who tried out the sparkly lip product, no investors were won. The investors took issue with the product's longevity with one stating they thought it was a fad and did not have long-term potential.

De Caux said: “Looking at it now, we think we’ve dodged a bullet. We still own 100% of our company and will continue to grow it the way we want to. The exposure we received from the episode has already boosted our business.

"Our website beautyboulevard.co.uk crashed because of the sheer volume of traffic, and we have been inundated with stockist and distribution request from all over the world.”

She added: “You get caught up in the moment and when we didn’t get investment, we were a bit upset, but honestly, we never actually wanted or need the investment in the first place.

"The experience of the dragons would have been a bonus, but we’ve come this far on our own and we know we have the drive and determination to take make Beauty Boulevard a household name."
