Waitrose reveals secret to aerosol supplier success

Published: 3-Dec-2014

The retailer is interested in responsible sourcing and sourcing from the UK

Retailer Waitrose has revealed what it looks for in an aerosol supplier at a recent forum held by the British Aerosol Manufacturers' Association (BAMA).

Clare Norman, Waitrose Technical Manager for Household, Baby & Pets, said at the event: “For me it's about working collaboratively and aerosol suppliers trying to see things through the retailers' eyes.”

She added: “Our customers expect us to offer something different, so our suppliers need to think of the bigger picture. One way for suppliers to succeed is by offering us something exclusive in the UK – perhaps selling the same concept in Europe but allowing us to offer that point of difference here.”

Norman revealed the challenges faced by Waitrose and aerosol manufacturers, including the complexity of aerosol transportation and requirements of additional legal text on product. Norman said: “The challenges of increased and complex legislation regarding the transport of aerosols from the EU can be viewed as beneficial to UK manufacturers of aerosols selling in Britain. This benefit should be maximised when talking to Waitrose as the company is particularly interested in responsible sourcing, and sourcing from the UK.”
