One of this year’s most talked about ingredients, cica has been making a steady march on beauty.

From skin care and make-up to body care and even hair care, this wonder ingredient offers countless cosmetic benefits including calming sensitive skin, reducing redness and boosting hydration.

Born out of the Korean skin care boom, cica – or Centella asiatica to give it its full name – is a leafy green herb, rich in fatty acids, vitamins and amino acids, that has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine to treat wounds, burns and incisions.

French pharmacy brands such as La Roche- Posay, Avène and Bioderma have included healing cica creams and balms in their product portfolios for some time too, but the trend has now reached the mainstream beauty market.
