Shiseido begins trial operations at plant cultivation test facility

Published: 2-Apr-2013

Aims to launch cosmetics formulated with cultivated plants by 2014

Shiseido has started trial operations at the plant cultivation test facility, established December 2012 at its Kakegawa factory. As well as a container type facility that enables plants to be efficiently grown as raw materials for active ingredients, a test farm was established and will commence full scale operation this month. Shiseido says this initiative will enable it to embark on the development of safe and reliable plant raw materials that are traceable to their source.

In the future, as well as aiming to launch cosmetics formulated with plants that have been cultivated, managed and harvested under the company’s supervision by 2014, Shiseido aims to gradually expand the on site cultivation and production of sources of plant raw materials while also gaining cooperation from raw material manufacturers.
