When Raymond Cloosterman started his business Rituals in 2000, he wanted to make every day that bit more special for his customers. He tells Katie Middleweek how he achieved this and where Rituals is going next

Rituals is a Netherlands-based company but one with a very international focus according to its Dutch founder, Raymond Cloosterman, who initially cut his teeth working at Unilever before striking out on his own. The brand is now available in 13 countries, with further distribution planned for next year and has over 700 staff worldwide. In 2011, it generated over €140m in retail and more growth is predicted for this year, 30-40% to be exact, while Cloosterman is hopeful for even more thereafter but is modest when describing his company’s undeniable achievements.

He comments: “It has been a success of course but as a company we still have a long way to go and have many plans for the future. We all work hard to make Rituals a success and I want to keep up this momentum and not get complacent.”

Cloosterman’s plans are ambitious and he shows no signs of easing up. He adds: “There are two to three more countries we are looking at entering in 2013 and in the next five years in particular we are looking at strengthening our business in Spain, the UK and Brazil. But it is a step by step process so we do not take anything for granted.”
