The challenges facing the European cosmetics industry as it prepares for the next registration stage of European Union (EU) chemical control system REACH have become clearer following a specialist briefing held at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) headquarters in Helsinki.
Experts made available to SPC in March explained that they were aware of concerns in the industry about the next stage of the key REACH registration stage. It involves companies making or importing chemicals used in the EU of small volumes (one tonne a year and above) registering these substances by 31 May 2018. For those used in quantities of ten tonnes or more, safety assessments of their use must be produced.
