RSSL improves dissolution testing service
Automated dissolution baths offer greater speed and efficiency
RSSL has invested in new equipment to bring speed and efficiency gains to its dissolution testing services.
Automated dissolution baths have been installed in RSSL's pharmaceutical laboratories, which can auto-sample items under test at the predefined time intervals. Samples will be taken without scientists having to be in attendance, giving RSSL greater flexibility in scheduling work.
Drug dissolution testing is routinely used to provide critical in vitro drug release information for quality control purposes, for example to assess batch-to-batch consistency of solid oral dosage forms, and in drug development to predict in vivo drug release profiles. In the former case, it benefits manufacturers to have results as soon as possible in order not to delay release of product.
‘Before moving over to the automated system it will be necessary to show equivalence with manual methods, and we have the method transfer/development expertise to do this,’ said Nicola Banks, senior scientist at RSSL.
‘The auto-samplers are expensive pieces of equipment, but we should be able to generate results in shorter timescales and more cost effectively, especially for extended release products.
‘We are confident the investment will benefit many of our customers.’
