Social media platform Pinterest has upped its competitive edge with a new AR feature that allows customers to virtually try on lipstick shades.

To use the new Try On service, powered by Pinterest’s Lens camera search engine, consumers can open the brand’s camera, click ‘try on’ and browse shades from a variety of brands including Estée Lauder, Sephora, bareMinerals and Urban Decay.

Users can also filter their search for products such as ‘matte lipsticks’ and ‘red lips’.

Meanwhile, the service is integrated with Pinterest’s skin tone feature in order for users to find lip shade to match their skin tone.

Once pinners have used the service to find their lipstick they can save to their board and shop at a later date.

The announcement comes weeks after Pinterest reported a 150% boost in searches for ‘vegan lipstick’ from December 2018 to 2019.

The service is rolling out to users in the US on iOS and Android.
