UK fragrance brand has launched As Sawira as a limited edition fragrance in the Trade Routes collection

UK fragrance brand Penhaligon’s has launched As Sawira as a limited edition fragrance in the Trade Routes collection. A 100ml eau de parfum costs £150 from Harrods.

The fragrance, created by Christian de Provenzano and named for the Moroccan port of Essaouira, has head notes of saffron, bergamot, absinthe and davana; heart notes of rose, cardamom, carnation, jasmine, labdanum and amber; and base notes of guaicwood, sandalwood, patchouli, oud, vanilla, myrrh and musk.

The fragrance was initially introduced to the public at the DFS Masters of Fragrance exhibition in Abu Dhabi in April. At that time it was shown in a black hand-cut crystal bottle with a clear spherical glass cap incorporating gold flakes, which came in a hand-made lacquer box. It cost Dh27,500 (about $7,487) and only one example was available.

As a Trade Routes fragrance, it now comes in the standard soft-shouldered clear glass bottle with a gold bow around the neck and a clear glass spherical cap. The box opens at the base to allow the fragrance to stand up and has a brown, wood-effect finish.

The Trade Routes collection, launched in September, is named for places on the globe where the luxurious commodities were traded at the end of the 19th century. Other fragrances in the collection include Levantium, Lothair and Impressa.
