KMI Brands partners designer fragrance project

Retro-inspired designer Orla Kiely is launching her first signature fragrance, an edp created by fragrance house IFF and developed with license partner KMI Brands.

“This has been a very interesting venture for us. I’m used to working with colour and pattern but here we have tried to capture the essence of us in a bottle,” said Kiely at the launch in London this week. “The bottle was also a lot of fun to do and the whole thing has been considered from start to finish.”

And it has been a very rapid process from start to finish. A licensing deal was agreed in January 2010 between KMI Brands and Orla Kiely for the creation and distribution of all fragrance and home fragrance products and the fragrance hits stores from August this year.

It is a fresh floral with top notes of green tea, fresh peach and bergamot, a heart of rose absolute, white flowers, ormanthus and a hint of chocolate and a base of musks, tonka bean, cedarwood and sandalwood.

The packaging features a typcial Kiely floral motif in muted shades with the bottle created in the same stylised primrose flower shape, embossed with stems on each side.

In addition to the fragrance there is a shower gel and body cream and in October 2010 a range of seven home products including candles, diffusers and a handwash will launch.

The fragrance launch is exclusive to the UK and Ireland this year but an international roll out is planned for 2011.

“Hopefully this is only the beginning of a number of products that will come out over the years,” commented Herbie Dayal, ceo, KMI Brands.
