Algenist Discovers Pure Vitamin C from Naturally Sourced, Regenerative Spirulina

Globally recognised for ingredient-level innovations and formulating with 10-day visible results always, Algenist continues their commitment with a new exclusive ingredient added to their portfolio: Blue Algae Vitamin C, a breakthrough L-Ascorbic Acid made from regenerative Spirulina.

While Vitamin C is a well-known skincare ingredient, many of its sources are unknown, synthetic, or are not sustainably produced. But Algenist has been able to study and extract Vitamin C from algae to deliver results that outperform L-Ascorbic Acids from other origins.

According to Algenist CEO Rose Fernandez, bringing new ingredients to market is in the brand’s DNA: “Today we have consumers searching for vitamin C at high rates. This inspired us to develop a naturally derived, potent vitamin C from Spirulina. When we set out to solve a problem in 10 days with each of our formulas, the process is rigorous. If an ingredient or technology does not exist to help deliver on our promise of 10-day results, or if we see a way to re-envision traditional methods ingredients are made to elevate our commitment to high-performance, naturally-sourced, and more sustainably -produced ingredients–we will make our own. This is how the brand was born and proudly continues today.”

Algenist’s latest exclusive ingredient innovation is Blue Algae Vitamin C a first-of-its-kind, 100% pure and vegan form of vitamin C from Spirulin a algae,a vital source of nutrients and minerals with a rich concentration of vitamin C in its purest, most active form: L-Ascorbic Acid.

“The team was inspired by the extensive research on blue-green algae, and for the potential to derive, extract and isolate its naturally-occurring vitamin C component and then to regeneratively produce it in a lab. The Spirulina is sustainably grown, and the naturally occurring vitamin C component is isolated and concentrated. The result is a highly pure Ascorbic Acid raw material, identified simply on the ingredient list as ‘Ascorbic Acid,’”Tammy Yaiser, Algenist VP of Product Development explains.“We also considered the whole process: the leftover algae by-product is still rich in nutrients and can be beneficial for other applications-fermentation, agricultural fertilisers, wastewater remediation. Part of the leftover biomass is used for making Spirulina Extract and Spirulina Oil.”

In Algenist’s clinical tests, regenerative Blue Algae Vitamin C outperformed other commonly used forms of vitamin C and other brightening ingredients specifically used for targeting pigmentation. Fernandez continues: “This was coupled with the fact that there was an opportunityto develop a new vitamin C serum clinically-studied on melanin-rich skin–who can experience skin sensitivity, blotchiness or even products that simply don’t work.”

Launching in January 2022 exclusively at LookFantastic.com, Algenist introduces Skinclarity Brightening Serum, targeting the appearance of pigmentation that can start in the early 20s. In 10 days, it’s clinically shown to enhance brightness and luminosity, even skin tone and texture, and improve signs of photoaging on all skin types and tones–including melanin-rich skin.

After 10 Days:

  • Helps even skin tone
  • Helps improve skin texture
  • Helps reduce dullness
  • Overall skin clarity is visibly improved
  • Measured increase in skin hydration
  • Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
  • Helps improve skin firmness & elasticity
  • Results obtained from 25 test subjects participating in a four-week clinical study. Individual results may vary.
