Skin care specialist enjoys strong growth in Asia

Nu Skin Enterprises has announced a record 20% jump in sales for its second quarter. The skin care manufacturer recorded revenue of $388.4m, while earnings per share jumped 43% to $0.50.

Growth was particularly strong in Asia. Nu Skin’s North Asia business grew 12% to $164.1m in Q2, up from $146.7m for the same period in 2009. Revenue in South Korea jumped 28%, offsetting a 3% decline in sales in Japan. In its South Asia/Pacific region, revenue made a 60% improvement over the previous year, reaching $45.9m. In China, sales reached $80.6m, a boost of 53%, with sales in Hong Kong alone jumping 162%.

“We are particularly pleased with the strength of the business in emerging markets, including China and Southeast Asia, which are providing an expanding platform for future success,” commented Truman Hunt, president and ceo. “Our strong first-half performance pushed us well ahead of our targets as we look to achieve another year of record results.”
