The Brazilian company, which recently bought The Body Shop from L'Oréal, has poached Boynton from menswear company Charles Tyrwhitt

Natura Cosméticos has named David Boynton as The Body Shop’s new CEO.

From 4 December, Boynton will take over the role from Jeremy Schwartz who has held the position since 2013.

Boynton was previously the CEO of British men's clothing chain Charles Tyrwhitt and has held several positions at L'Occitane over a ten year period.

Prior to his career with the French skin care brand, Boynton was the Managing Director for A.S. Waston in Hong Kong and Macau from 2003 to 2006.

Natura Cosméticos announced it would be hiring a new CEO on 11 September, but remained tight-lipped about who this would be until 29 September.

Each of the Brazilian firm’s three cosmetics brands and companies, Natura, Aesop and The Body Shop, have their own chief executive and executive committee to ensure full autonomy.

Joao Paulo Ferreira will still head up the Natura business, while Michael O’Keeffe remains CEO of Aesop.

Boynton’s appointment follows the Brazilian firm;s purchase of The Body Shop from L’Oréal in June for around $1bn.

The cruelty-free brand is now active in more than 60 countries and available through more than 3,000 points of sale.

In 2016, it generated retail sales of approximately €1.5bn and net sales of €921m.

Speaking at the time of the acquisition, co-chairman of the Board of Directors of Natura, Guilherme Leal, said: “We are thrilled to welcome The Body Shop to the Natura group.

“This alliance creates a combination of companies that share a common purpose that goes way beyond usual businesses. A new force for good is taking shape”.
