The monomaterial PE sachet reduces plastic usage by 75% and lets the consumer smell the product inside

Packaging and paper firm Mondi and French machine supplier Thimonnier have teamed up to develop a recyclable, monomaterial liquid soap refill pack.

The new berlingot sachet is made solely from coextruded polyethylene (PE). Not only does it weigh less but it reduces plastic usage by more than 75% compared with rigid plastic bottles.

It has also been designed so it can be entirely emptied.

The durable, leak-proof solution lets consumers smell the product inside, while the lightweight material is said to make the pack more convenient for consumers buying in store.

“Our goal working with Mondi was to find a packaging alternative with low environmental impact and good runnability. We are pleased to have found a solution that achieves both,” said Eric Duhoo, General Manager at Thimonnier.

For Mondi, the berlingot sachet fits into its action plan to create circular-driven packaging and paper solutions.
