New from Macpac is Breakdown PET, a resin that naturally decomposes after just a few years, rather than centuries.
The material is both fully recyclable and biodegradable; it boasts all the same characteristics as standard r-PET (with at least 90% recyclable content), but has the added benefit of and end-of-life solution.
Like conventional r-PET, Macpac’s Breakdown PET is designed for recycling.
However, Breakdown PET also has greatly accelerated decomposition in landfill.
It contains an additive that attracts microbes when placed into microbe-rich environments.
These feast on the polymer chains breaking down the chemical bonds that hold the plastic together.
