Cosmetics sales up 7.7% in Q1

German consumer products group Henkel, which owns the Schwarzkopf business, has posted a 7.7% rise in sales from its cosmetics and body care products division in first quarter 2011 to €821m.

The company says the basis for this strong start to the year has been the continuation of an "innovation offensive" with numerous new product launches. Growth was reported in all regional markets with Asia again posting double-digit increases.

Sales in western Europe and North America were increased through innovation and market share increased. Operating profits in the cosmetics segment rose 12.6% to €112m.
