Indena to directly market Gikacran in Japan, South Korea, China, India and Russia

Indena, a developer of active principles derived from plants, has entered into an agreement with Pharmatoka, a producer of dietary supplements containing bioactive cranberry juice extract, as part of a strategic drive into the cranberry derivatives market.

The partnership will see Indena produce Gikacran, a cranberry juice extract that provides the same amount of proanthocyanidins (PACs) as 40g of the fresh fruit, under exclusive license for Pharmatoka. Gikacran has been used since 2006 in different dietary supplement products in and outside Europe under the brand names Urell and Ellura. Furthermore, Indena will also directly market Gikacran in Japan, South Korea, China, India and Russia.

Gunter Haesaerts, CEO and founder of Pharmatoka, said: “Indena and Pharmatoka share the mission to improve health and well-being for people worldwide, summarised in our four principles. Scientific support, close relationships with health professionals, continuous listening to our customers and excellence of our products are what we commit to, and Indena is an excellent partner.”

Christian Artaria, Marketing Director of Indena, added: “We are excited to start the commercialization of Gikacran in these countries in which we have an historical important presence and Japan is the first market we will approach. We strongly believe in Gikacran and in its potential, and we are really confident that our product will clearly distinguish from any other cranberry extract on the market.”
