The paper-based HexaFil is designed to combine product protection with sustainability, while saving retailers shipping costs

HexcelPack, a US-based specialist in protective packaging solutions, has introduced HexaFil, its latest eco-friendly cushioning solution to protect products in transit.

100% paper-based and recyclable, the void fill solution utilises a three-dimensional hexagon design and slit paper technology to make the paper 'flex', expanding its volume while maximising strength and stiffness.

When dispensed, the paper spirals like a helix to create the bulk needed for effective void fill, ensuring items will be nestled in a stable position and reducing the risk of damage during transport.

It is said to provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic-based protection items such as bubble wrap and air pillow packaging, while also reducing the amount of materials required to ship products to consumers.

“Our HexaFil void fill is an ideal solution to boost packing efficiencies across e-commerce applications, and perfectly aligns with our continued commitment to delivering innovative protective packaging solutions that are both cost effective and sustainable,” said Lorne Herszkowicz, Partner at HexcelPack.

HexaFil is available with both manual and automatic dispensing units to accommodate different shipping speeds, with the automatic AutoHexaFil able to dispense the material up to three times faster than alternatives, helping retailers increase efficiency and save on labour costs, according to the company.

“At a time when most of our retail customers are experiencing extremely high shipping volumes and an increased demand for eco-friendly packaging products, we are thrilled to bring AutoHexaFil to market as our first of many innovations in automated packaging,” added Herszkowicz.

HexcelPack offers a range of eco-friendly, paper-based cushioning solutions designed to replace bubble packaging and other plastic or foam-based alternatives, with its portfolio offering protection for retail packages as well as corrugated shippers, envelopes and more.
