Company reports increased sales of sustainable palm oil certificates

GreenPalm's sales of palm kernel oil certificates have seen a sharp increase in recent months. October 2013 saw GreenPalm report a record trade of palm kernel oil (PKO) certificates. November saw another record broken by the sustainable palm oil certificate-trading programme, with the company reporting unprecedented figures for the number of certificates sold.

During October, 416, 852 certificates were sold on GreenPalm's trading system, totalling $4.4m, of which a record number of 125,781 were PKO certificates. In November, 717,431 certificates were traded, worth $3.2m, of which a further record of 667,982 were for palm oil.

This reported growth of PKO certificate sales, along with a significant increase in the premium buyers paying for each PKO certificate, is also largely responsible for the GreenPalm’s significant improvement in premiums paid to RSPO-certified growers. So far this year, GreenPalm has traded palm oil, PKO and PKE certificates worth $15.3m – a rise of 25.4% on 2012 figures.

Commenting on the figures, Bob Norman of GreenPalm said, “This month has seen unprecedented levels of trading. Our figures illustrate the fact that manufacturers and retailers are taking palm sustainability seriously and are keen to support growers directly.”
