This week's Markets column provides a preview of the December issue of Cosmetics Business Markets, which will focus on the global hands and nails sector.

It was only recently labelled the darling of the colour cosmetics market. But the double digit growth that propelled nail products to become the fastest growing beauty category between 2010 and 2012 could not be sustained. By 2014, the boom was over.

Research in Cosmetics Business Markets’ December issue reveals flat or declining results for the majority of western European countries, the US and Japan throughout 2014, and into 2015. In the US an improving economy drove women back into salons for manicures, causing retail market sales to drop 8% (Euromonitor), while in France, the prestige nail market saw value sales peel off by 4.3% (FEBEA).
