French trade association, Association des Fabricants de Savon de Marseille (AFSM), has taken steps to secure geographical specification for its products.
AFSM has asked the Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle (INPI) to put an Indication Géographique Protégée (IGP) on the term 'Savon de Marseille' in order to protect the quality and regional character of the product. The application will be subject to a public enquiry, with a verdict expected on 21 February next year.
