Dove has partnered with acclaimed TV producer Shonda Rhimes and ‘real women everywhere’ to launch a new production company, Real Beauty Productions.

In time for the Unilever-owned brand’s 60th birthday, the latest move by Dove aims to further expand the definition of beauty.

Real Beauty Productions has been created 13 years after Dove's initial diversity campaign and has named Rhimes as the first Creative Director to create a series of advertisements sourced from consumers.

Women and girls are encouraged to share personal stories about what beauty means to them via doverealbeauty.com.

The selected participants will then work with Dove and Rhimes to bring their stories to screens internationally.

Real Beauty Productions has set a goal to employ an entirely female crew to ensure a women’s perspective shapes the film from every angle - in front of and behind the camera.

A major TV producer in the US, Rhimes has previously been named one of TIME magazine's 100 People Who Help Shape the World. She will be engaging with potential storytellers by promoting the campaign to her 1.5 million Twitter followers.

“I have always told stories to show us who we really are – our real human truths,” Rhimes said. “The way women are depicted on our screens – big and small – must be challenged. I am personally eager to see the real and unexpected stories women will share with us.”

Rhimes, writer and producer of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal,, is also currently an ambassador of National Women’s Health Week which runs from 14-20 May.
