Douglas offers lifeline for beauty brands amid Covid-19 crisis

The German-based retailer has opened up its website to retailers and beauty brands to sell their products for the next three months

European retailer Douglas has offered beauty companies a lifeline amid the Covid-19 pandemic by opening its online marketplace to beauty brands and retailers.

Companies will be able to stock their products via douglas.de with “preferential conditions” for the next three months.

The business hopes this will allow online-ready retailers to offer their products “quickly and easily” with an increased reach, in order to slow a decline in sales.

“As an omnichannel retailer, we are able to cushion part of the impact of the suspended store business by continuing our online trading in a focused manner,” said Tina Müller Douglas’ CEO.

“Smaller retailers and brand shops often do not have this opportunity in this form.

“We would like to support them in offering their products to millions of consumers via our marketplace and in generating stronger sales with their product portfolio online.”

Since the outbreak one third of the world’s population has been put on stringent lockdown orders, causing most beauty retailers and brands to close their shops.

Vanessa Stützle, Douglas’ EVP E-Commerce, added: “Regarding the currently tense economic situation, we are offering new partners preferential conditions for the activation on our marketplace for the next three months.

“In doing so, we would like to make a contribution to supporting the retail industry in these difficult times.”

Douglas has deployed a special task force in order to deal with interested retailers and brands.

Potential partners must be able to send their products to end customers in Germany via DHL.
