Colgate-Palmolive is to roll out the world’s first recyclable toothpaste tube, based on high-density polyethylene (HDPE), via its Tom’s of Maine brand, with the Colgate brand set to follow.

The tube has gained recognition from The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) - the first such tube to earn recognition of this kind.

Toothpaste tubes are usually made from sheets of plastic laminate incorporating different sorts of plastics, which are sandwiched around a thin layer of aluminium that protects the toothpaste.
