Study demonstrates how device removes 6x as much SPF product as hand washing

Clarisonic has conducted a study into how well its devices remove sunscreen residue from the skin. Testing levels of residue after cleansing, the study concluded that the device removed traces of sunscreen products more effectively than hands alone.

The company compared how much sunscreen remained on the face after cleansing – one side of volunteer’s faces was cleansed manually while the other used a Clarisonic brush. The amount of sunscreen applied, cleansing time and amount of water and product used were standardised. Volunteers used 2mg per centimetre of skin, as per standard guidelines, in either SPF15 or SPF30.

The Clarisonic device was found to remove up to six times more product than the manual wash, while also removing more make-up, sebum and dirt.

Dr Robb Akridge, Co-founder at Clarisonic, explained: “Sunscreen is one of the most important things you can do to protect the skin, but removing all of the residue can sometimes be tricky. Cleansing with Clarisonic gives you an easier and more effective option.”

Clarisonic has released a new product ahead of the summer season. The Mia 2 Summer Batik Beauty Bag Collection ($149) is available in pink and turquoise and comes with a sensitive skin brush head and deep pore brush head.
