50% of consumers want to know more about cosmetic supply practices

Brazilian supplier of natural and organic ingredients Beraca has been recognised as a member of non-profit association the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT).

UEBT promotes the fairtrade of ingredients from native biodiversity and its members commit to gradually ensuring that their sourcing practices promote the conservation of biodiversity, respect traditional knowledge and assure the fair and equitable sharing of benefits throughout the supply chain.

“The status of UEBT member is an important recognition and one more step on Beraca’s primary goal: developing the sustainable use and supply of ingredients from the Brazilian biodiversity following environmental, social, and economic criteria,” said Filipe Sabará, Beraca’s business director.

From its adoption as a member of UEBT, Beraca starts a period of five years in which it will undergo periodic audits and must submit annual reports on the company’s progress towards full compliance to standards established by the association.

According to UEBT research conducted in Europe and the US, 50% of consumers believe cosmetic companies should prove that their acquisition of natural ingredients is carried out in an ethical manner and more than 85% would like to know more about the supplying practices used at the cosmetic sector.
