Aesop on retail expansion path with new Paris boutique

The brand has opened its fifth shop in France

This month, Australian skin care brand Aesop is opening a boutique at number 15, rue des Abbesses, in the Montmartre area of Paris. As the brand’s fifth outlet in France, the interior has once again been designed by the architecture firm Cigüe, which has worked on the company’s stores in the past.

“It is our third collaboration with the architects of Ciguë,” said Aesop. “[They] share our respect for the identity of each location, our admiration for ancestral savoir-faire and our ambition to marry the poetic with the functional.”

The plaster used in the Montmartre interior reflects the historical and geological history of the quarter. Custom-moulded tiles, meanwhile, are nested within each other to form the main wall, desk and shelves. The whiteness contrasts with black steel and pipework, oak parquet and natural light, while the main window is inspired by a smoker’s studio once located a few metres away.

This month will also see Aesop open its sixth outlet in London, in Covent Garden, while the next city to see a new Aesop outlet will be Berlin.
