A magnetic alternative to holograms

Published: 28-Jul-2010

Barlog Plastics, Solev and Akzo Nobel have joined forces to create a 3D effect decoration solution. Magnetys can be used to create an effect similar to that of a hologram on all or part of the surface of plastic objects, according to Solev.

The principle combines several technologies: a special plastic from Barlog Plastics, which can contain a residual magnetic field when moulded; a magnetic field ‘printed’ by Solev to take on the desired graphic form within the moulded part; and an Akzo Nobel varnish sensitive to the magnetic field. The final result is décor that appears spontaneously in the 3D part once it is varnished, says Solev.
