Developed with Revieve, the AI-powered advisor analyses users' selfies to provide personalised product recommendations

Japanese beauty powerhouse Shiseido has revealed what is said to be the world's first AI-powered make-up advisor to help customers realise their beauty goals.

Created in partnership with beauty tech company Revieve, the Makeup Advisor combines virtual try-on technology with personalised recommendations to offer customers a customised beauty experience.

Consumers can upload a selfie and answer questions on their desired beauty goals via Shiseido's website to receive a list of recommended products for the eyes, lips and face, which they can then virtually try-on before purchasing.

The digital Advisor is also said to offer brands and retailers insight into their customers and how they interact across all touchpoints, helping them create a more personalised and seamless product discovery and purchase experience, according to Revieve.

“Brands and retailers are connecting with their consumers in a whole new way,“ said Sampo Parkkinen, founder and CEO of Revieve.

“AI-powered technologies in a traditional industry like beauty and skin care will help guide brands in understanding their consumers and leveraging their needs to market and promote their products in the most tailored way possible.”

The latest innovation continues the company's long standing partnership with Shiseido, which kicked off with its Skincare Advisor in 2019, providing consumers with personalised skin care advice.

Meanwhile, last month Revieve rolled out its AI Hair Care Advisor alongside Unilever-owned hair care brand Living Proof, which utilises AI technology to advise users on a hair care and styling routine based on their hair type, colour, volume and curl type.
