The ingredient both mattifies and soothes the appearance of irritated skin

BASF has leant into the CBD trend with ComfortBD, a solution to support the look of a mattified complexion and soothe the appearance of red, irritated skin.

Available on the US market, ComfortBD has monitored levels of CBD of over 80% and less than 0.2% total THC, and is said to show efficacy in both in vitro and in vivo tests.

It is made from industrial hemp grown on farms in the US that intend to seek certification for their organic growing practices.

Additionally, BASF said end products containing ComfortBD saw no impact on odour or colour.

“Since the pandemic, consumers have shifted their preferences, looking for sustainable and efficient solutions, and CBD is the perfect candidate for this as it’s a natural solution that provides relaxing and calming properties,” said Nader Mahmoud, BASF’s Vice President Business Management for Personal Care North America.

“Our Research & Development team has deep expertise with plant and botanical extracts. They found the exact synergy and combination to create an active ingredient extracted from L. cannabis sativa sourced and sustainably grown in the United States.”

More major ingredients players, like BASF, are taking topical CBD solutions to the next level for the discerning US market.

For example, Evonik's recently launched TEGO CBD Revitalize solutions leverage CBD along with other synergistic components to provide skin revitalisation benefits.
